Exploring the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: The Pinnacle of Plug-In Hybrid Technology July 19 2023, The latest in Mitsubishi's line-up, the 2023 Outlander PHEV, is no less than a crown jewel, boasting unparalleled performance, state-of-the-art technology, and a significant all-electric range improvement. It's no wonder that Kenji Harada, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc., described the vehicle as the most successful launch in the company's 20-year history in Canada, sparking unprecedented enthusiasm among dealers and customers alike. Outlander PHEV's practicality and superior all-wheel-drive capabilities make it particularly appealing to the Canadian market, demonstrating Mitsubishi’s expertise in electrification and motorsport-derived technologies. The vehicle's plug-in hybrid system and Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system effectively deliver the balance between power, efficiency, and drivability that consumers are seeking. The 2023 Outlander PHEV integrates a new generation of Mitsubishi Motors’ twin-motor S-AWC system, with both motors offering increased power over their predecessors. The front motor, rated at 114 horsepower, drives the front wheels and the gasoline engine when necessary, while the rear motor, offering 134 horsepower, powers the rear axle. The combined system power is impressive, standing at 248 horsepower and 332 lb/ft of torque. The vehicle is fitted with a 20kWh lithium-ion battery pack, producing a 350-volt output, and can travel up to 61 km on electric power alone. This, combined with the 2.4-litre MIVEC four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine and an enlarged 14.8-gallon fuel tank, provides a combined electric-gasoline range of up to 687 km on a single charge and tank of fuel. A unique feature of the 2023 Outlander PHEV is the automatic optimal drive mode selection, complemented with driver-selected modes. The vehicle can switch between three modes (EV, Series Hybrid, and Parallel Hybrid) automatically, optimizing efficiency based on throttle input, driving conditions, and battery charge state. Furthermore, three driver-selected modes (Battery Charge, Battery Save, and EV Priority) allow further customization to the driving experience. The Outlander PHEV is also equipped with a heat pump system, innovative pedal operation for single-pedal driving, and regenerative braking. Its fast-charging capability is equally noteworthy; the battery can reach 80% charge in just 38 minutes via the onboard DC fast-charger. It can also be charged using a level-1 or level-2 wall charger or the internal combustion engine itself in Charge Mode. With its wide array of features, advanced technology, and improved efficiency, the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV truly showcases the future of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Contact Us
